SAANYS Members Lobby in Albany
SAANYS & CSA spent Wednesday, March 26 at the state capitol supporting funding increases to schools throughout the state. Members met with several committed legislators that have been speaking out for increased education funding. The SAANYS Government Relations Committee convened the day prior to confirm what the top priorities were amid state budget negotiations. They lobbied on behalf of:
- Updating the Foundation Aid Formula
- Supporting a limited but not total ban on cell phones
- Salary cap waiver
- Universal meals for all students
- Universal day care
- Professional development funding for school leaders
Dr. Cynthia Gallagher was joined by eight teams comprised of school administrators from across the state. With 19 meetings scheduled, it was a busy day for all involved – and it was no quiet affair when members supported State Senators John Liu and Shelley Mayer at the press conference for increasing funding for NYC Schools. “Education is a right, FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!” chants could be heard throughout the capitol.
