Memo on Student Growth Updates for 2015-16
The memo on student growth updates for 2015-16 (available here) issued by Assistant Commissioner Ira Schwartz, provides an overview of the state-provided growth score model and related data requirements for the 2015-16 school year. The memorandum indicates that for the 2015-16 school year, SED “intends to minimize changes to the growth model while continuing to prepare for a broader review of the model and its underlying methodologies.” Please also keep in mind that the APPR subcomponent and composite scores based on the state provided growth score will be advisory, and that a second, transition score, will be used for the primary score for decisions related to employment, tenure, improvement plans, etcetera.
This item will be included in the materials that the GRC will discuss with Commissioner Elia on May 10. We hope that you will find this information helpful. We will continue to keep you updated. All the best. …Jim Viola
