Governor Hochul Signs APPR Legislation
Late afternoon on Friday, May 13, Governor Hochul signed S.8276-a/A.9600 into law. The APPR legislation allows districts the discretion to conduct APPR evaluations for teachers and principals. Additionally, tenure may be granted to principals (and teachers) who, in their discretion, are eligible and otherwise qualified, except for the absence of an APPR rating for the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-22 school years.
SAANYS appreciates the support of the governor and legislature on this important legislation. Considering the challenges that districts have faced again this year due to the pandemic, relief from APPR is necessary and welcomed.
SAANYS would like to thank all of our members for their interest and emails regarding this bill. All of your comments and concerns were most helpful as we worked with the legislature and governor’s office toward the passage of this legislation.
