SED seeking educators to participate in test development activities

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has asked that SAANYS nominate several members for upcoming projects regarding certification assessments as outlined below. The work activities are tentatively scheduled for the week of December 9, 2019.  All meetings will be in Albany for 1.5  consecutive days, except for ESOL, which will be 2.5 days.

Travel to the meetings will be reimbursed. Hotel accommodations for individuals who live more than 50 miles from the meetings will be provided.  Committee members are paid an honorarium of  at least $200 per day ($100 per ½ day).

If you are interested in being nominated by SAANYS for this work, please let us know by close of business Wednesday, July 24 by using the link at the bottom of this page. You should include:

1. Which test you are interested in.

2. Your exact title, building, and/or district.

3. Preferred email and phone contact information.

We will be submitting nominations after July 26 and are seeking geographic balance. Each nominee will be notified and sent a link to an online application form that must be completed. NYSED will then select committee members and contact them directly, providing further details and materials.

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking educators to participate in test development activities for the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) in:

  1. Early Childhood Education (birth to grade 2, Math and ELA)
  2. Literacy (grades K-12)
  3. English to Speakers of Other Languages (grades K-12)
  4. Physical Education (grades K-12)
  5. English Language Arts (grades 5-12).

These certification exams have already been revised. All NYSTCE exams are developed in accordance with national industry and professional standards for educational testing. The activities this fall are to validate items for item bank expansions based on the current frameworks.

NYSED is looking for New York State educators who hold permanent or professional certification in New York State and are practicing teachers in these areas, supervising programs in these areas, or New York State educator preparation faculty who are preparing teachers to practice in the field. Highly qualified educators with expertise in the teaching or supervising of these programs, including those with experience with ELL and SWD populations, as well as educator preparation faculty who are preparing these teachers, are encouraged to apply.
