Grades 3-8 Assessment Data to be Released July 1
SED States Earlier Release Will Help Educators Plan for Next School Year
SED Press Release – 4/30/15
The State Education Department announced on April 30 that, in response to feedback and requests from teachers, principals, and superintendents, instructional reports for the 2015 Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and math assessments will be released earlier than ever before. A July 1, 2015 release will allow schools and districts to use this information for summer curriculum writing and professional development.
“One of the most important benefits of assessments is their use to inform instruction and strengthen student learning,” said Board of Regents Chancellor, Merryl H. Tisch. “The early release of these reports will give districts the time they need to adjust curriculum and focus on improving learning outcomes for students in the upcoming year.”
“Superintendents, principals, and teachers have told us how valuable these instructional reports have been in years past to help improve instruction,” said Ken Wagner, senior deputy commissioner for education policy. “Making them available earlier means educators will be better able to make strategic and informed decisions when planning for next school year.”
As in the past, information about every student’s response to every question on the assessments will be available. The instructional reports will help teachers and administrators review whether the student answered the question correctly, and the Common Core learning standards measured by each question.
