Job Summary
The Deputy Executive Director plays a critical leadership role within SAANYS. This executive position oversees all programmatic services’ planning, implementation, and management, ensuring they align with the organization’s mission. In addition, this position will play a vital role in the development and communication of the organization’s positions on legal and policy issues to lawmakers and members. The Deputy Executive Director reports to and will work closely with the Executive Director and other leadership team members to develop strategies, manage resources, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across all program areas and departments.
This is an in-office position located out of our Latham, New York, offices. Travel throughout New York and occasionally nationally is required.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Management:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs to ensure they meet the needs of those supported and strategic goals.
- Oversee the hiring and appropriate staffing of departments.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards.
Leadership and Staff Development:
- Provide direct staff supervision and mentorship.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting collegiality and growth among staff.
- Implement performance management systems that align with organization goals and promote accountability.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and the leadership team to develop and execute the strategic plan that enhances program quality and expands services.
- Identify program expansion and development opportunities, including potential partnerships, grants, and other funding sources.
Quality Assurance
- Oversee the implementation of quality assurance measures to ensure the highest care and service delivery standards.
- Monitor program outcomes and use data-driven insights to guide decision making and program improvements.
Advocacy
- Develop positions on laws, regulations, rules, and guidance impacting members and intelligently convey such positions to the Department of Education and key lawmakers at the state and federal levels.
- Participate on the organization’s behalf on committees and research groups to ensure members’ voices are heard.
- Solicit feedback on key issues from members and report findings back to membership and lawmakers.
Qualifications
Experience
Applicants must have experience as a public school administrator in New York State. Preference will be given to those who have direct involvement and leadership experience with SAANYS at the state, regional, or bargaining unit level.
Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be willing to travel, and have a customer service mindset.
