Government Relations Update: The Update | Live Briefing

Published July 16, 2025
A Government Relations Live session was held July 15th with the focus on issues that districts should be considering for APPR and STEPS. The session was co-hosted by Don Nickson (former Deputy Director) and Cindy Gallagher.
Beginning with this school year, districts staying with their 3012-d APPR plans (until the required transition to 3012-e no later than 6/30/32) must assess whether their currently used observation rubric aligns with the adopted PSEL standards.
Letter from NYSED Assistant Commissioner
NYSED has reviewed the most commonly used commercial rubrics to determine alignment and disseminated that information to districts.
The notes from the Government Relations Live session found here also indicate which rubrics have been approved and their status regarding alignment. Depending on the rubric currently being used, districts may or may not need to submit a revised APPR plan. Some of the rubrics have been determined to be materially different, while others have not had significant changes requiring resubmission.
