Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is an evidence-based training for adults working with youth ages 10-18. The training takes place in person over one day and requires two hours of self-paced online pre-work before the in person session. YMHFA trainees begin by learning about common mental health challenges facing youth, from anxiety and depression, to eating disorders, substance use, and suicidal ideation. The training is grounded in real world scenarios and structured around a practical action plan, ALGEE, which empowers participants to:
• Assess for risk of suicide or harm
• Listen non judgmentally
• Give reassurance and information
• Encourage appropriate professional help
• Encourage self-help and other support strategies
Trainees receive eight hours of CTLE credit and are certified by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing as “Youth Mental Health First Aiders.”
SAANYS Members and Nonmembers – $50.00
Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
After your registration with SAANYS is confirmed you will receive instructions from the trainer on how to create a MHFA Connect Portal account to complete the 2-hour pre-work by September 15. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE TWO HOUR ONLINE PRE TRAINING AFTER REGISTERING in order to attend the in person schedule or your spot will be given to someone else. NOTE: This training is capped at 35 attendees.
