SED Guidance on Smart Schools Allocation

KidComputerOn April 28, the State Education Department released guidance related to the Smart Schools Program and procedures through which school districts may access their Smart School allocations.

The guidance document includes information regarding:

  • The school district application process (Though there are no specific deadlines for submission, the portal for plan submission will open June 15.)
  • Allowable and non-allowable expenditures (All funds will be distributed on a reimbursement basis.)
  • Requirements for stakeholder involvement
  • Inclusion of non-public schools (School authorities will need to establish policies/regulations specifying the date by which requests must be received by the district.)
  • Treatment of Smart School plans and funds (Expenditures under the Act must be included in the district’s annual independent audit.)
