If you are like many leaders, you may be feeling that you should be promoting actions and conversations to improve your school culture with regard to equity, diversity, and inclusion, but you really are not sure what to do or where to start without bringing in “equity experts” to lead the work.
The purpose of this three-part series is to build your own capacity to foster equitable, culturally responsive, and inclusive school environments. It will enable you and your team to go forward with increased confidence and expertise, grounded in solid resources and strategies to make improvement of culture in your school an ongoing and embedded part of the fabric, rather than a forgotten workshop. You will become familiar with two key resources and engage in a series of activities to enhance your team’s capacity to set your school or district up for success, especially looking toward the next school year.
These featured resources will be provided:
•The Educator Diversity Playbook (The Education Trust, NY Council of School Superintendents and Council’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusivity)
•NYSED Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework
Registrants are encouraged, but not required to purchase Dr. Brown’s book, Culture of Love: Cultivating a Positive and Transformational Organizational Culture prior to the course (available on Amazon).
The three one-hour online sessions are designed to encourage honest and open discussion in a safe environment and promote connections with colleagues around the work. Self reflection, productive conflict, and a review of policies that need to change will all be part of the learning.
